A fence that had run out of life
The original boundary had gone grey and brittle, boards had split away from the rails, and whole sections were leaning off vertical. Once a run reaches this point there is nothing left to reset: the posts have shifted in the clay, the timber has lost its strength at the ground line, and every repair is holding up something that is failing somewhere else.
We walk the full line before quoting so the scope reflects what is actually gone rather than what shows from the street. How we make that call is set out on our fence repair and restoration page.

Old posts and footings out of the ground
The old fence came out in full, including the buried concrete. Leaving old footings in place forces the new post holes off the line and leaves obstructions for anyone digging in that yard later, so our crews break them out and haul them away as part of the job.
That also gives a clean run to reset the line straight, which matters on a boundary this long where a few inches of drift compounds along the length.

Stained cedar on steel posts
The new run is cedar on galvanised steel posts, set in concrete footings to our one-third depth rule. Steel is what stops this happening again: it does not rot at the ground line, and it holds a tall panel straight against the soil movement that pushed the old fence over.
The boards were stained after installation to block the UV load that greys untreated cedar within a summer here. The reasoning behind species and finish is in our wood fence climate guide, and the build detail is on our wood fence installation page.

A sliding gate across the drive
The driveway is closed by a sliding gate clad to match the fence, so the opening reads as part of the boundary rather than a separate structure. A slide suits a drive like this where a swing leaf would have to arc back across parked vehicles.
Gate posts carry loads a fence line never does, so they are sized and set for the panel rather than simply continuing the fence spacing. Sizing, tracks and automation options are on our sliding gate installation page.
