A driveway gate sized to the opening, not to a catalogue
This Oak Cliff property has a side drive running tight between the house and the boundary. Openings like this rarely land on a standard panel width, and a stock gate forced into them leaves a visible gap at one post or binds against the other. We built the panels to the measured opening instead, so both leaves close square and latch cleanly. The approach is the same one described on our gate installation page.
The gate is a double swing in vertical steel pickets, with the picket spacing kept tight enough to avoid reach-through gaps and the bottom clearance set so the leaves never drag on the concrete. Those geometry limits come from the ASTM F2200 standard we build every gate to, and the same detailing applies to the fence panels covered under iron and metal fencing.
A LiftMaster LA400 matched to the panel weight
Automating a swing gate starts with the panel, not the motor. Leaf weight, leaf length and the slope of the drive decide which operator can move the gate through its full arc without straining. For this pair of leaves we fitted a LiftMaster LA400 linear actuator, a residential unit suited to gates of this size and daily cycle count. Undersizing here is the single most common cause of the burnt-out motors we are called to replace.
Our own employees ran the power, mounted the arms, set the travel limits and tested the safety reversal before leaving.
